Do you have an appointment for anesthesiological care by my practice?

Here you will find information that will reliev your unnecessary worries and will help you to be perfectly prepared for the procedures.

The pre-anaesthesia interview

The pre-anaesthesia interview takes place before or on the same day as the procedure.
This gives us the opportunity to get to know each other and work together to select the ideal anaesthesiologic method for you.
If you have any illnesses, it is important that you bring relevant documents -if available - with you to the anesthesia consultation. If you are unsure or have any questions regarding relevant pre-existing conditions, you can contact me in advance at any time.

What do I have to pay attention to on the day of the procedure?

  • Please do not consume any solid food 6 hours before the anesthesia (this also includes cloudy liquids such as orange juice, coffee, milk, chewing gum, etc.). You are also not allowed to smoke during these 6 hours.
  • You are allowed to drink clear liquids (water/tea) up to 2 hours before the anesthesia.
  • You can take a sip of water with your tablets within 2 hours before the treatment

With a few exceptions, you can also take your medication on the day of anesthesia. Your treating doctor or I will be happy to advise you on this. Blood sugar-lowering agents and insulin are not useful (due to the fasting requirement), especially if you are prone to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). These agents should not be administered before anesthesia (in this case, if necessary, check your blood sugar level regularly). If there are any questions please consult your doctor or me.

The anesthesia

For the procedure, we need an intravenious line, usually in the area of the back of the hand or forearm, and your circulatory functions are monitored (EKG, oxygen saturation in the blood, blood pressure via a cuff on the arm or leg). Depending on the anesthesiologic procedure, you will not notice anything or hardly anything of the rest of the treatment.
In any case, we ensure a comfortable and painless treatment.
As anesthesiologists, we are fully trained specialists for this.

After the procedure

After the treatment, there is a monitoring phase in the recovery room.
It is essential that you are picked up and accompanied by someone you trust after the procedure.
In addition, you must be cared for at home by a competent caregiver for 24 hours.
After the anesthesia, you will not be able to do business for 24 hours and, for example, you will not be allowed to actively participate in traffic. You will receive further information about this in advance during the anesthesia consultation.

I would be happy to answer any further questions you may have
